Downtown Sarasota Parking

The City of Sarasota has established a progressive parking management program. Parking permits are not required.Convenient on street parking is available at almost 3,000 timed parking spaces in the City of Sarasota, which includes the downtown core, Judicial Center, St Armand’s, Southside Shopping Village, Burns Square, Marina Jack, and other areas throughout town.  


Parking opportunities, restrictions and enforcement

  • Please note time restrictions where marked to avoid being cited for parking over the time limit (including in front of Gulfstream Towers). Timed parking enforcement hours are consistently monitored in all of the city's parking districts, Monday through Friday from 9 am until 6 pm.  There is not timed enforcement on Saturdays, Sundays, or city holidays. Timed parking in the busiest parking areas usually runs 2 hours, with some areas set at 3 hours, and a few spaces designated for quick turnover at 15 minutes. Meter violation fines are $15.

  • Additionally, if parking time runs out, the driver must move the vehicle beyond a one block radius in any direciton (including across the street) from the current parking space for the purpose of securing additional on-street timed parking.  The citation for not adhering to this rule is $15.

  • Any vehicle where a single tire is completely out of the marked line is subject to a parking citation for Parking Outside of the Designated Space, and a $35 fine.

  • When parking in spaces across the street from Gulfstream Towers, be sure to back the car into the slanted space; otherwise, the vehicle will be ticketed. The parking is free here seven days a week, but limited to two hours from 9 am to 6 pm. Overnight parking is allowed. 

  • The spaces south of GT, closer to the church, have a three-hour time limit. 

  • The spaces on Gulfstream Avenue across from the Dolphin Tower and in front of the lift station are designated for three hours; however, overnight parking is not allowed there. Limited permit parking also is available in this area. Call the Parking Administrative office at 941-954-7057. 

  • Free parking is available in the nearby Palm Avenue Garage, located between Main and First streets.The city provides four reserved electric car-charging stations on the ground floor.  Call the Parking Administrative office at 941-954-7057 to reserve charging time.

  • The 2nd Street Garage at Whole Foods offers free parking. Ground floor parking is intended for customers of Whole Foods, while the second and third level of the garage are open to the public (except where posted).  The public parking access ramp is located on Second Street, near the corner of Central Ave. There are time restrictions in the facility which the City Parking Division monitors and issues citation for time violations.  The time restrictions are: Ground level - 2 Hours ; Level 2 thru 3 - 4 hours.

  • Free parking, likewise, is available on various streets throughout the downtown area.  Free parking may be restricted to two (2) or three (3) hours, so please be aware of the posted signs.
